Task Force On Gender Based Violence Launched

In order to deal with the issue of sexual and gender based violence (GBV), especially in the township of West Point, a special community oriented task force has been formally launched in the community by Representative Enomifa Ennos of Electoral District #1 in Montserrado County.

Launching the task force, which is chaired by Mr. Philip George, Rep. Ennos underscored the urgent need to put into place adequate civil and community sensitization programs aimed at combating GBV especially in communities like West Point, New Kru Town, among others where according to information, GBV is more prevalent.

Rep. Ennos said efforts of the Task Force should be fully supported by international partners including local and international NGOs.  She promised to work closely with the task force in making sure that its dreams are actualized.

Serving as the keynote speaker at the launching ceremony held recently, the President of the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL), Cllr. Lois Brutus, challenged the task force to do its utmost best in educating community residents about the danger GBV poses to mankind, particularly women, girls and children as a whole.

Speaking on the theme: “The Prevention of GBV- Prospects and Challenges in post-war Liberia”, Cllr. Brutus expressed AFELL readiness to work with the task force in effectively carrying out its activities in the affected communities.
